Wide Coverage

We cover a wide geographical area, operating throughout Northamptonshire and all surrounding counties, including Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Leicestershire, Warwickshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire, Rutland and in to the West Midlands and beyond.  We also cover North London with our fleet of cranes able to meet the requirements of the ULEZ scheme.  You can visit our Frequently Asked Questions section at the bottom of this page for a list of many of the cities, towns and surrounding areas that we frequently service but we are happy to provide Contract Lift crane hire much further afield, so please do give us a call on 0800 804 6696 and we will be happy to let you know if we are able to assist.

Own Fleet of Cranes

Not all companies advertising have their own fleet of cranes, which isn’t always clear from their websites, meaning they are constantly reliant on other crane companies to supply equipment to them.  We have always invested in our own fleet of cranes which include all-terrain and lorry-mounted cranes from 7 tonnes upwards, allowing us to supply small cranes where access is narrow or restricted, and much larger cranes where reach or load weight requires this.  Each year we renew parts of our fleet to ensure we are taking advantage of new technology entering the market.  We also have a full range of lifting equipment for hire depending on the needs of your job.

Personalised Service

As a family-run business, we pride ourselves on the personal attention given to all our customers at all stages of the process, from initial enquiry to job completion, and we have many happy, longstanding customers as a result.

Complete Lifting Solutions

We also pride ourselves on the flexible, multi-faceted service we are to offer.  We are experienced in providing cranes not only for the building trade and large commercial industries but equally for private individuals, lifting spas, boats, garden structures etc.  The range of sectors we work within and types of lifts we can carry out for you, are detailed further on  our Crane Hire Services page.   No job is too big or small and we can plan a complete lifting solution for your needs.   We are able to arrange haulage on your behalf where necessary and supply all associated lifting equipment required to complete your project with ease.

Qualified and Safety Accredited

All our personnel are CPCS or NPORS qualified and are fully trained, insured and safety accredited.

With regard to health and safety, we are SMAS Worksafe accredited; CHAS accredited, and CQMS Safety Scheme accredited and are long standing members of the CPA (the Construction Plant-Hire Association) adhering to their terms and conditions of hire.  See the health and safety section below for further details.

Health and Safety

Assessing all the possible health and safety implications involved in a lift is crucial. It is essential in protecting both your project and the safety of our team, as well as avoiding damage to property or the public.

We adhere to strict safety guidelines and have been repeatedly certified as ‘Worksafe Contractors’ by SMAS, who re-assess us annually to ensure we continue to meet the health and safety standards required for this certification. We also have CHAS Contractor accreditation and CQMS fully accredit us under their Safety Scheme Plus covering a wide range of additional criteria including quality, environmental policies and equality and diversity.

View our SMAS Worksafe Compliance Documents.

We are members of the C.P.A. and operate under their widely accepted terms and conditions of hire. We also employ the services of external Health and Safety Advisors, who assess our work and provide us with advice and information on all safety-related matters. All our personnel are fully qualified and have undertaken safety training as part of their qualifications.

A-Lift can offer crane hire either on CPA Crane Hire terms or Contract Lift terms. The importance of health and safety means you must consider all possible risks involved in a lift and be qualified to plan and manage crane lifts if you are requesting to hire a crane under standard CPA crane hire terms.  The majority of our customers are not qualified to do this and require a Contract Lift.  To help determine which type of crane hire you need or would qualify for, you can consider the following questions:

  • Have you got employees with recognised Appointed Person or Crane Supervisor qualifications?
  • Have you planned and managed a lift before?
  • Do you know the weight/dimensions of the lift?
  • Is there enough room for the crane to access/exit site?
  • Is the area free of obstructions such as overhead cables, underground services or confined spaces?

A CPA Contract Lift is likely to be the right option if you answered no to any of these questions.

Greater detail on these two types of lifts can be found on our Crane Hire Services page.

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

A-Lift Crane Hire has been operating since 2001 and became a Limited Company in 2005, so we have over 20 years experience of supplying cranes to suit a wide range of lifting requirements. Before starting A-Lift Crane Hire, one of the owners, David Robson, had worked in the crane hire industry for many years, and the majority of our crane personnel have many years of experience in the crane industry, with many also having a military background before entering crane hire.

During the years in which we have been trading, we have expanded our fleet of cranes and built our own crane depot from which to run and maintain that fleet of cranes. We are continually investing in upgrading our fleet to offer you the most versatile cranes we can. Most recently, this has included investing in remote control truck-mounted mobile cranes such as our Bocker and Klaas, which offer many benefits on-site – see our crane fleet charts for further details.  We have also had the good fortune to work with many well-known clients and carry out a vast range of lifts for clients across many industries.

We are very proud to have been in business for this length of time, and we have many regular and happy clients due to the friendly, professional service we aim to provide all our customers.

Our depot is based in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, but we supply cranes throughout all surrounding counties and beyond.   Whilst we concentrate mainly on supplying cranes within a 60-mile radius of Wellingborough and Northampton, we do have personnel based in many other areas of the country, enabling us to arrange Contract Lift crane hire further afield, so please don’t hesitate to contact us to find out if we are able to assist.

Please be assured that if we can service the area you need to carry out a crane lift in, we will always provide you with an initial free site survey to determine your crane hire needs.

When it comes to mobile crane hire, you want to ensure you have a reputable, experienced company, ideally with their own fleet of cranes, who will prioritise safety on site and provide the best service they can for you.   A-Lift Crane Hire is the ideal choice in this regard.   As stated, we can supply cranes throughout a broad area including Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Leicestershire, Herefordshire, Rutland, Warwickshire and other nearby counties such as Oxfordshire.

Take a look in more detail at some of the areas we regularly provide crane hire in. This isn’t an exhaustive list by any means, with us servicing all surrounding villages and towns, so do give us a call and we will be happy to tell you if we can quote for the area where your lift is required.

Absolutely. Cranes are heavy and potentially dangerous items of plant, so they must be operated and managed with great care. All of our crane personnel have to legally be qualified to perform their roles, and all of our personnel are qualified and trained for the roles performed for us. The majority of our personnel are CPCS qualified or in some cases, NPORS qualified, with NVQs completed in their particular specialisms after completing their initial qualification, be it Crane Operator; Crane Supervisor; Appointed Person or Slinger-Signaller.

This gives you the peace of mind that your goods are in the safest hands possible and reduces the risk of accidents and injuries on-site.

So, in summary, whether you opt for a CPA hire or CPA contract lift, we always provide a suitable crane that is maintained, tested and certified in line with legislative requirements along with a competent trained crane operator and, in the case of a contract lift, a competent trained slinger-signaller/lift supervisor with the lift planned and lift plan written by a qualified appointed person.

As members of the Construction Plant Hire Association (CPA), we can assure you that every lift is carried out according to LOLER and BS7121 standards, ensuring maximum safety and efficiency at all times.
